Graphology is by no means a modern study. Many centuries ago the Ancient Chinese showed an interest in the psychology of handwriting, recognising a link between handwriting and character traits. In Europe during the Middle Ages the art of writing was mainly pursued and taught by monks. By the thirteenth century writing was becoming more widely practiced by educated people. But the earliest work written between handwriting and personality was compiled by Dr Baldo, an Italian Doctor of Medicine and Philosophy in the early seventeenth century.
The origin of modern graphology comes from France. The term ‘graphology’ comes from the Greek words ‘grapho’ and ‘logos’ meaning respectively ‘I write’ and ‘doctrine’ or ‘theory’.
In Europe Graphology has been taught a an academic study at universities for many years and is acknowledged as a Science in many countries.
